Herzlich Willkommen! Ich bin Marcus Spittler und wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung (WZB), in der Abteilung “Demokratie und Demokratisierung” (Prof. Wolfgang Merkel).
Meine aktuelle Forschung konzentriert sich auf junge Erwachsene in Europa und deren politisches Partizipationsverhalten. Mich interessiert, wie sich verändernde demokratische und politische Einstellungen, neue (technische) Partizipationsangebote und das Auftreten neuer politische Entrepreneure (populistische Parteien) auf das Beteiligungsverhalten junger Erwachsener auswirken. Dazu gebe ich seit 2017 zusammen mit der TUI Stiftung einen jährlich erscheinende Studie “Junges Europa” heraus.
In der Vergangenheit habe ich mich mit dem Verhältnis von Populismus und Demokratie, mit dem Wahlverhalten hinsichtlich populistischer Parteien und mit der Integrität von Wahlen beschäftigt. Letzteres konnte ich am Electoral Integrity Projekt in Sydney vertiefen.

Welcome! You’ve reached Marcus Spittler’s homepage. I’m a research fellow at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center, where I work in the department of Democracy and Democratization.
My current research focuses on young European adults and their political participation. I am interested in how changing democratic and political attitudes among young people, new (technical) possibilities for participation and the emergence of new political entrepreneurs like populist parties, affect the participation behavior of young adults. Therefore, since 2017 I have been publishing an annual study [“Young Europe”] (https://www.tui-stiftung.de/unsere-projekte/junges-europa-die-jugendstudie-der-tui-stiftung/junges-europa-2019-die-jugendstudie-der-tui-stiftung/) together with the TUI Foundation.
In the past, I have dealt with the relationship between populism and democracy, with electoral behavior with regard to populist parties and with the integrity of elections. I was able to deepen the latter at the Electoral Integrity Project in Sydney.
